Guided Sunrise Walk to Simon’s Seat
Embark on an early-morning adventure through the enchanting landscape of the Yorkshire Dales to witness the sunrise from Simon’s Seat—a striking gritstone outcrop with sweeping panoramic views. Your guide will lead you along a steep ascending trail that leads to the rocky summit returning via the winding tranquil woods of the Valley of Desolation, where the sound of running water and birdsong sets a serene tone.
As the forest clears, the path opens to heather-clad moorland. The final climb is steep but invigorating, and as dawn breaks, you’ll arrive at the summit just in time for the first light to spill across Wharfedale. From this lofty vantage point, the rolling hills and patchwork fields glow in shades of gold and rose. Your guide will share stories of the area’s natural history and folklore while you enjoy a quiet moment of awe—perhaps with a warm drink from a flask.
This guided walk is moderate in difficulty (around 12– 14 km / 7–10 miles round trip) and rewards early risers with one of the Dales’ most breathtaking sunrise experiences. Sturdy footwear, layers, and a sense of wonder are all you need to make the most of this unforgettable outing.
